Why My Home Insurance Cost Has Risen

Hi, I’m Kim, a member of the personal lines team here at Paul and Dixon.

I wanted to take a minute to go over one of the most frequently asked questions that I receive and that is why is my homeowners insurance so expensive?

There are two primary factors contributing.

The first is reinsurance. So, insurance companies purchase insurance just like you and I do. They need to protect themselves against catastrophic loss as well. And although we’ve had a generally mild winter here, other parts of the country have encountered severe weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts and wildfires and with reinsurance, all of the losses that are encountered throughout the country are then shared amongst all.

The second is the overall cost of a claim has increased. The cost to rebuild and restore homes has risen significantly over the past few years. Um, this is due to shipping delays, the availability of products and materials, the shortages in the construction industry. If you’ve had to do any work to your home recently, you may have experienced this for yourself.

However, it’s not all bad news. There are many ways that we can help you minimize the impact to your premium. And we’re going to cover that in the next video. In the meantime, please feel free to call, text, or email your account manager so that we can make sure that you’re receiving the best option.

Thank you.
