In 1997, I received a phone call asking if Paul & Dixon would be interested in participating in an Easterseals softball tournament. Thinking it was a great team-building idea for our staff and because I am a baseball/softball lover, I assembled that first team.

My colleagues and I soon realized how relatively unimportant the game was but how important our fundraising efforts were to empowering children and adults alike to manage physical obstacles that prevented most of them from hitting a ball or running the bases. We raised $250 that first year. Twenty-seven years later, we are closing in on $170,000 raised in all. We are so committed to Easterseals’ extraordinary work that we match every donation and increase that match to $172 for each $100 donation to acknowledge that our community has allowed us to serve them for 172 years.

Our participation in the annual Easterseals Softball Tournament has become a cherished tradition. The Paul & Dixon Ten is back and ready to take the field! On August 10, we will be taking on the international food processing and packaging company, Robert T. Reiser & Company of Canton, as we restoke the rivalry with our opponent of the last two annual contests.

Our friendly softball battles have become true highlights of our summers, and we’re thrilled to be on the field again. More importantly, the exhibition is all for charity, with the proceeds going to Easterseals. Last year, our fundraising efforts resulted in a Paul & Dixon contribution of nearly $7,000, and we are hopeful of even better results this year.

As many of you know, through your continued generosity, we together have raised over $160,000 in the 26 prior campaigns. Some of you have been with us from the start, for which we are infinitely grateful. Of course, we also understand that current economic conditions may be affecting you. We simply ask that if you can, you consider giving.

Again this year, as a sign of our continued commitment to Easterseals programs, Paul & Dixon will match dollar-for-dollar each contribution we receive. And, in recognition of the 172nd anniversary of our founding, we’ll donate $172 for every $100 donation we receive. Every little bit helps (and is doubled, too!). See what your dollars can mean:

– $75 pays for a physical therapy session that helps a disabled child to learn to walk

– $150 pays for 30 therapeutic swim lessons for someone recovering from an auto accident

– $3000 pays for 10 days at camp for a youngster in a wheelchair (our contribution last year was enough to pay for two camp stays!)

We couldn’t be happier to swing bats and run bases again this year, but more than anything, we hope this year’s Easterseals campaign will be a successful one. Please help us make that happen!
